Not to panic more but twitter is probably about to do the same thing as tumblr

brellom:

So I just read up more on what the actual fuck is going on and what this means for NSFW content creators and this twitter thread really explains everything and why no amount of petition signing is going to change the direction tumblr, and inevitably twitter, is going

You can read the thread here

While a lot of artists went the ways of newgrounds and HF and mastodon and whatever else, a lot artists (myself included) just moved to Twitter because we were all mostly there already. But I’m not just bringing this up because I care about twitter, twitter definitely sucks, but because NSFW creators are very quickly running out of options.

Seems to explain the things going on with Tumblr lately.

I don’t make a living on nsfw anything, but some of you guys might?

I’m not a huge fan of censorship, so this is just plain worrisome anyway. I’m not entirely sure what to do other than help spread the word. =/

Are you fucking kidding me

Hey remember this post from a few days ago?

Well if you too think that’s bullshit, I advise you to check out this site right here.

I’m leaving tumblr soon, but having learned about SESTA & FOSTA recently, it’s got me a bit worried about the safety of NSFW creators in particular on major social media outlets.

By conflicting with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, this set of bills can make entire websites responsible for the content of it’s users, putting them at legal risk if a user posts something the law doesn’t like – so the safest course of action is to play it safe and prohibit users from posting ANY remotely risky stuff – like NSFW content (thanks tumblr). It’s a bit like the EU’s Article 13.

It’s a bill that, on the surface, looks like it’s supposed to do good, but I’m not under the impression that it’s doing much more than harm – and it’s a step closer to the censorship of sexual expression, which I’m not really cool with, especially right after what’s happened to tumblr – effectively disrupting the livelihood of creators and purveyors of anything NSFW. Like you and I.

Maybe it won’t be an issue, MAYBE it’s an overreaction… but it’s currently on my mind and it has me worried. So perhaps, if you were previously unaware of the circumstances, you should be made aware.

Because after Net-Neutrality’s Repeal, Article 13, and tumblr metaphorically shitting on us, I’m not particularly optimistic…

So perhaps you should get in contact with your representatives and, like… Set them straight.

I don’t like talking about these big, world-changey politic-analogous stuff on my tumblr, but since we’re going to be burying my tumblr soon, I guess there’s not much of a point.

The biggest reason I want to keep this blog up

in some shape or form is so you can still drop me anonymous asks. Even if I’ll have to screenshot them and answer them on Twitter or something.

Although Pornhub sounds good, they don't have a good rep with sex workers, from what I can glean, for respecting ownership. They tacitly encourage reposting copyrighted material.

Another perspective. That’s my impression too.

Dec 6, 2018 3 notes
Apparently pornhub is a really good place a lot of nsfw creators are moving to. you can post text posts, gifs, images etc, have it show up on people’s feeds like on tumblr, and even earn ad revenue on it (if you want) or post exclusive paid content. they tweeted about it and it looks interesting so it might be something worth checking out and talking to other nsfw creators/blogs about.

Ha! It’s true! You can post gifs and images (and status updates?), though there currently isn’t much transformation content. Most of the news I’ve been reading about Pornhub has been positive. Plus: they’re unlikely to shut down or ban adult content any time soon.

That said, it’s a website built around hardcore mainstream video pornography. It may share some of Tumblr’s features, but the sum total is decidedly different. It isn’t a safe space in the way that Tumblr was.

Νothing will be a perfect replacement. I’ll miss anonymous asks. The biggest loss, however, is the fragmentation of the community. I’m fortunate enough to have an audience. Some people will seek me out no matter where I go. The smaller creators, people just starting out, fanfic writers, collectors, photo captioners, RPers, you all are the beating heart of the TF community. You’re the ones who will, ultimately, decide where we end up. It’ll be years before Tumblr’s successor becomes clear. It might be Newgrounds, pixiv, Pillowfort or something entirely new. It just won’t be the same.

Finally, while it’s easy to blame Verizon or Apple or Tumblr managment, this is actually a result of FOSTA-SESTA, a law designed to curb sex trafficking, which also made platforms liable for their users’ actions. It caused the closure of Craigslist’s personals section as well as Patreon’s recent changes regarding adult content. As long as the law remains the same, any large community that includes erotic material won’t be safe from shutting down at a moment’s notice.

If you’re leaving Tumblr for good, then cancel your account on your way out.

thelastenglishgentleman:

prostatorgasm:

nomadicism:

Sounds drastic. Especially for content creators who may still need Tumblr for commissions while they find an alternative.

If you can swing it, here’s why:

I suspect that the December 17th deadline is so that Verizon/Yahoo can clean house and make Tumblr appealing to investors. This is a Q4/Q1 fire sale kind of thing. It makes a certain amount of business sense to make this change. Human-lead content curation (e.g. separating the CP from the legit) is expensive and time-consuming. I doubt they have the money for it. They already sold off Flickr. As a long-time Flickr pro user, I’m not pleased by the change and increase in pro account price, but I get it.

Investors are looking for a user base. User base is a prime attraction for investment or buy-out for a social media platform or application (I speak from experience as a co-founder of Rhinobird.tv).

Every account that is cancelled will be one less account in Tumblr’s user base for their pitch. I assume that there are millions of accounts with some percentage simply being abandoned accounts that haven’t been used in years. So cancelling one’s account on the way out the door won’t really matter unless the number of cancelled accounts reaches several hundred thousand at least.

If you decide to leave and cancel, then I also recommend sending a polite message to Tumblr staff, or tweet to the account about why you are leaving.

Finally, using Twitter to voice your concerns and thoughts about this issue will increase its visibility. They ain’t gonna like that. Media outlets that cater to tech entrepreneurs, and Silicon Valley types are going to be all over this.

I never ask for reblogs, but I will this one time.

Reblog!!!

Please reblog this. It speaks volumes.

Because of Tumblr's changes, NSFW will objectively never be the same. And it'll be permanently reduced to nothing. What can we do?

Let’s be real here: these are corporate games way above our heads and no amount of petitioning or people walking out will change their minds. They already made their decisions and I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t even care if tumblr dies - it wouldn’t be the first time a corporation like Verizon (tumblr’s owner since last year) makes an acquisition and drives it to the ground because it doesn’t fit its business model or for some convoluted financial scheme (that’s what happened to Toys'R'Us).

So I guess unless we dismantle capitalism tomorrow and take control of corporate resources, there’s nothing to do but move onto greener pastures at Newgrounds and Twitter and pray they don’t purge us later, too. Once more corporate power fucks over the little guy, but this is nothing new.

You have a beautiful style! Would it be ok to ask what tools you use to make things?

Hey thanks!

I draw in Clip Studio Paint on an XP-Pen Artist 22E pen monitor, a cheaper Cintiq alternative. It’s not perfect but I’m happy with it, overall. It’s the biggest change since the last time someone asked this question. I’ve also gotten a desktop computer, now, no more balancing my laptop on a stack of books…

Even though 99% of my work is done digitally, I like having a paper sketchbook and HB2 pencil for note-taking and sketching. I bought myself a Midori Traveler’s Notebook last summer. It’s a beautiful object but the paper size is too narrow for comfortable drawing. Their MD Cotton Notebook is larger, but also completely white so I feel bad lugging it around, getting it all dirty and scuffed. I’ll likely end up with a Moleskine again.

Thanks for asking!

What are your thoughts on the reverse of bimbofication, stuff like uglification, nerdification and slobbification? Obviously it has a lot fewer high quality sequences.

Α while back, someone requested “Cheerleader to Curvy Nerd” on Patreon so I’ve drawn a couple variations on that theme.

Uglification, slobbification don’t do much for me, personally. I prefer TFs where the end result remains conventionally attractive.

Quick question, what are your thoughts on this reverse/sub-genre of bimbofication called Increased Beauty? It's basically bimbofication, but with no brain loss. (At least that's what the old GirlsTF Yahoo Group calls it)

I’m a big fan of makeovers! The majority of my work probably falls under IB (for lack of a better term). Intelligence loss isn’t a huge draw for me. Personally, I’m more interested in submissiveness, eagerness to please and being sex-focused as far as aspects of bimbohood go (I’ve mentioned this before).

(not sure if you’re asking about my tastes or my thoughts on its politics… Increased Beauty explicitly elevates certain features as “better”, based -mostly- on very straight male pornographic definitions of beauty. You could argue the term itself is problematic but, again, it’s porn)

You been watching Teen Titans, any chance of some neat Starfire or Raven stuff in the pipeline? :3

Unlikely. I have very nebulous, conflicting feelings about rule 34 and fanart. I have a lot of opinions that I won’t get into here, but the gist is that the more I’m into an IP, the less likely I am to fetishize it (directly).

Though I did do that Benfire storyboard 3 years ago so like, I guess it wouldn’t be completely unprecedented, I just wouldn’t get your hopes up is all.

man, i like your MtF transformation stuff, but the female-to-female bimbofication strikes a little too close to "women are objects" for me to be comfortable. it's gonna be a no from me dawg, i'll have to stop following your art.

That’s fair.

Bimbofication is an inherently sexist fantasy. I’ve said it before. I can’t deny its appeal to me, personally, but I understand that the ideas presented are problematic and that different people will have different tolerance levels. I’m sorry it also spoils my MtF stuff for you but I completely understand.

NSFW usually makes us think of tiddies. However, BimboTF often lacks nudity, allowing it to sidestep NSFW filters. It never occurred to me before, but your message inspired me to put a lot of my pieces on deviantArt behind “mature” filters for being ideologically sensitive. It’s not a perfect solution, but at least it sets them apart. I invite other bimbofication artists to consider doing the same, if you’re not already way ahead of me. I also realized I hadn’t set my tumblr to explicit. Eek! It’ll likely impact my traffic but at least I’ll sleep easier.

This is a good opportunity to reiterate that my work depicts sexual fantasies. It’s meant for adults to indulge a fetish and should never, in any way, inform anyone’s views on gender (or anything else, honestly, except for maaaaybe style). If you use bimbofication porn to justify real-world sexist behavior and beliefs, you need to read more books and do some serious soul searching (unless you’re with a consenting adult, of course).

I might draw porn but I’m still an artist: I want to make the world a better place. I sometimes wonder if my work does more harm than good… I think bimbofication art is a harmless way to indulge problematic fantasies, but only as long as it’s emphatically clear they’re just that: fantasies. Repeating that is the reason I’m answering this publicly. That said, I’m keenly aware my livelihood depends on maintaining that belief :/

Thanks for the ask! You gave me plenty to chew on. I’d love to hear more people’s thoughts!
